Often times we have bad habits or less than empowering ways of thinking.
You may be tempted to "fight" these tendancies.
Don't do it.
Remember what you resist persists.
So what shoudl you do instead?
Crowd it out.
When in doubt crowd it out.
What do I mean?
Let's say you are concerned that you are putting on weight. Well you could fight the urge to overeat or try to force yourself to go to the gym.
But neither of those things works, at least not for very long.
So what can you do instead?
Focus on physical activities you like to do, focus on healthy food you like to eat. Focus on fun things you can do when you have the energy.
In other words, don't fight the disempowering thought, crowd them out.

More Observations on Success, part 3
Power of State
Putting yourself in the right state is like putting yourself in the right part of the library- it makes the resources you need readily accessible.
Power of State
As opposed to trying to REMEMBER the answers focus on BEING in the right state were the answers NATURALLY flow. In the right state, you are aware of the answers that were inside of you all along. This is why “Learning is Remembering”.
The hardest part is thinking the thought the first time. Once you have have done that you have created a neural pathway on which to build on.
Either you consciously make decisions, and systematically follow through on them, or you drift. It is that simple.
Disempowering emotions are an action signal if heeded and a distraction if not.
Be wary of stacking reasons for failure- oftentimes you create a wall that makes it al but impossible to suceed. Stack reasons fo success only. Seperate out, and deal individually with, reasons for failure. Remember!! If you create enough reasons you can do virtually ANYTHING- or virtually nothing.
Give the Gift of Specificity
If you want to help someone, including yourself, you must first help them to get specific- remember the “tyranny of vagueness”. The mind NEEDS specifics to build from.
It is PRECISELY the people who find it most difficult to do something (i.e. exercise, plan, assert themselves, communicate clearly, etc.) that most need to do it.
The most valuable time can be those “spare moments” during which you are doing mundane tasks such as shaving, showering, etc. This is because it is during those moments when you can reconnect to your passions, get focused on your outcomes (daily, weekly, long term) and feel the power of your outcomes (feel as if you have already acheived it).
It is amazing how even a couple minutes of creative thinking can break the chains of years or decades of petrified thinking. This is why you MUST regularly brainstorm out ideas. As Robert Ringer says, “Give me one hour of creative thinking to 100 of your constricted thinking”.
Crazy ideas can lead to great ideas if given the “freedom to evolve”
Paradox of important tasks
The more something is a “must“ the more you must focus on it being a fun because it is only by seeing it as something fun that you are going to do it enough and with sufficent quality to acheive the results you want.
Window Shopping
Window shopping is a far more generic concept and a far more powerful concept than most people realize- you can “Window Shop” for a girlfriend, what you want your body to look lke, what kind of a life you want to life, what sort of a love life you want, etc.- you can find a world of great role models to help you live a more fulfiling life.
To really improve the quality of your life you can't afford to take things at face value.
A true change in identity is NEVER dependant on money- that will follow. True identity is thnking and action. To have so and so identity you don't have to have XXX- those are accutrements for later.
Limited Limiting Patterns
There are only a handful of patterns that are holding you back- you need to identify them in whatever area of life you seek to improve (physical, relationships, finances, etc.) and then come with alternatives.
When you mess up, do the wrong thing (such as overeat), DON'T come up with reasons for it- don't justify it. This only strengthens your messing up because you are stacking reasons why you will mess up in the future. Instead focus on how to do the right thing- waysto better handle the situation. Focus on solutions.
Discipline is at the bottom of all good things and state management is at the bottom of discipline.
Your state becomes your reality.
To be good at something study it, to be great become a student of it.
If you want a great answer you must ask a great question. Questions are the seeds.
There is no substitute for desire- you must really want it or else you won't be consistent enough to regularly get the result again and again.
Don't come up with excuses- come up with improvements
Power of Repetition
It is only when you have many REPEAT exposures to an idea that you start to THINK it- at least usually
It is only when you THINK it that it becomes REAL to you
It is only when it is REAL to you that you start to INTERNALIZE it
It is only when you INTERNALIZE it that you start to consistently ACT on it
It is only when you start to consistently ACT on the that you LIVE it
Actionable Chunk
When you ask a question all you need back is “an actionable chunk”- some specific action to move you closer to the solution. Generally speaking, you don't need to know all of the answer to act.
Question Mapping
After question storming (brainstorming questions), take the time to organize your questions into “question trees” / question maps- i.e. hierarchies of how the questions are inter-related. This way you can attack them in a more systematic manner.
Be careful NOT to try and motivate yourself with untrue or inaccurate communication- at some level you know it is incongruent and therefore it ultimately backfires.
For example, if tempted to overeat don’t say, “I can't eat that”. This was NOT true or accurate- You have the ability to eat it. Instead say “I CHOOSE NOT to eat it”
The point of asking questions is NOT to et an ULTIMATE ANSWER, it is to get an ACTIONABLE ANSWER.
The Growth Chain
Until you think it, it is not real to you.
Until it is real for you, you will not consistently act on it.
Until you consistently act on it, it will not benefit you.
Hence, for ideas to benefit you, you need to keep flooding your mind with good ideas until they reach a critical point and you start thinking those ideas yourself. And thus begin the growth chain.
The reason you must convert a decision or an idea into immediate action is so that you get the idea/ decision INTO YOUR BODY as soon as possible. Then it will be there for future reference and growth. For example, upon asking a Question answer it- unless you are doing question storming. In this case, come up with answers right afterwards. Any answer you can build from.
Never leave the sight of a decision OR AN IDEA without taking some action to make it come true. By doing it you get it into your body.
There is a cybernetic loop between beliefs and reality: You adjust your beliefs to your reality and you adjust your reality to your beliefs. This is why beliefs are so crucial. Beliefs are self fulfilling prophecies.
Pivot Point
How can I best motivate myself?
You need to come up with a “phrase that pays” an incantation that you can use to motivate yourself whenever you go into a spin. This is about finding the leverage point- “pivot point”.
The difference between an opportunity and a challenge is your viewpoint (i.e. the way that you frame it).
It is very important that you WRITE your fears, current limiting patterns down- and get as SPECIFIC a possible. Look at them critically. By doing so you rob them of much of their power.
False causes
TTR - Take Total Responsibility
Be very wary of blaming false causes for your challenges. Remember!! Your challenges are due to your limiting patterns. Focus on specifically defining your limiting patterns (i.e. don't just say “overeating” ). Your challenges are NOT due to things outside your control. Put the blame where it belongs- on your limiting patterns. Don't blame germs- blame your bad eating habits. The first key to success is taking responsibility.

More Observations on Success, part 2
Need to be clear
Take the time to figure out what you want- without a clear outcome you waste time.
Why we need why
Ideology is the fuel of effort- you have to know the why before you will consistently implement the how.
Logical Consequences
There is no short selling these points- a diet, a budget and a schedule DO mean sacrafice, giving up things, CONSCIOUSLY making trade offs. These are simply the logical consequences of deciding to discipline yourself and therefore take control of your life.
Illusionary Progress
The reason that people get sucked into believing “illusionary progress” is because they get addicted tio epiphanies rather than measurable results
Don't tell me how great a seminar/ book was- tell me what key distinctions you got out of it and how you are going to use them to immediately improve your life in the next 24 hrs (courtesy Peter Drucker)
Remember!! The brain responds to repetition and emotion
That which gets measured gets done. Further, the more you measure it the faster and the better it gets done.
You can't improve that which you can't measure.
Illusionary Progress Theory
Unless progress has been documented (read: quantified) it is probably illusionary. Most of the time that people think they atre making progress, except at the beginning when it is often very easy to progress, they are really kidding themselves. This is especially true if they have not documented the progress and they have not measured it.
Comfort Zone
You will only master those things that you feel comfortable with. This is because you will only pick up the subtlties in those areas you feel comfortable with- and you need to pick up subtlties to master. Furthermore, you need to acheive MASTERY to gain any sort of real advantage from anything.
This does NOT mean that you should only do things that you feel comfortable with- this will leave you in a rut. It does mean that you should do those things that you already feel comfortable with AND you should be continually seeking out new ways of doing things -whether they are better ways of doing what you currently doing things or ways of doing new things- that you CAN feel comfortable with.
Need for Specifics
You need specific in order to get anything done- YOU MUST FOCUS ON SPECIFICS OR NOTHING GETS DONE!!
The Double Edged Power of Focus
The great thing about life is that whatever you focus on you improve- and this is also the worst thing about life if your focus is wrong. The double edged power of focus.
On: Number of Ways of doing things
One way gives you hope
Two ways gives you a belief
Three ways gives you confidence
Four or more ways gives you certainty
Success is the product of several things working together. Hence it is important that you know the "components of success" so that you can optimize each one.
Power of Identity
Since your personal growth is nothing more than the growth of your identity, by focusing on your outcomes along with how you need to change your identity to reach it you are MAXIMIZING your rate of growth and the amount of improvement that you make in your life.
By continually focusing on solutions we send a clear signal to the brain that we are commited to this. We really want it. It strengthens your will
Questions, asked persistently and with enough intensity will call forth the answers embedded within your mind- and this answer will be a starting point.
You need to reinforce your reasons so they reinforce you when you need it. Feed your reasons so they can feed you when you need it.
The only constant is gravity. You need to continually refocus because life continually pushes you to entropy- getting out of focus.
It is rarely a matter of CAPABILITIES, it is a matter of PRIORITIES and STRATEGIES.
The successful insist on controling their lives- even if it means short term losses.
Unless you CONSCIOUSLY make decisions, you won't be in control of your life.
The quality of your life is determined by the quality of the states you CONSISTENTLY live in.
Take the time to figure out what you want- without a clear outcome you waste time.

The quality of your life is determined by the quality of the states you CONSISTENTLY live in.
Some Observations on Success, part 1
By thinking it you create a neural pathway in your mind/body, by writing it down you strengthen it, implant it into your mind/body and virtually guarantee you can reactivate some or all of it by seeing what you have written.
Power of something- easier to build from something than from nothing.
Vision gives you the certainty- the “why” gives you the POWER to overcome obstacles and press on.
If you try to make a change by the same methods that have failed you in the past you are automatically going in with one strike against you as you will remember the previous failure(s). If you casually commit to it, especially if you don't write it down on paper and/ or tell others, you will have another strike against you as you will be communicating to yourself that you aren't that serious about it.
By getting clear on your outcome, you empower i.e., your brain to organize its resources to achieve it. You trigger the Reticular Activating System.
Without written records and some sort of objective measurement it is very hard NOT to go around in circles because trying to compare were you are now vs. were you when sometime in the past based on memory is almost impossible to do unless the difference is DRAMATIC!!
Focus on what you know, focus on what you want and build from there. Self exploration is a lot like scientific exploration- you have to build from what you know (indeed,), guess as to what you believe is correct, reality check (experiment) and use the feedback to get more specific in the future. This is how you grow.
If someone else is doing it you know it can be done
The more you focus on what you want the clearer you will be on it. Clarity is power.
You MUST take it seriously to grow in that area
Questions v Thought
Don't try to think empowering thoughts, that is chasing the effects. Go to the source- focus on asking good questions. Questions are the source of thinking. What we think of as thoughts are merely the ideas/ assertions that come to our consciousness from the many numerous ““progrms”. Most computer cycles are not directly related to that which appears on the screen. This is analogous to what you see on the computer screen in relation to the entire processing going on with the stuff on the screen being your conscious thoughts and the computer cycles being the total mental activities with the programs being the questions you ask.
Circles of Identity
There are three parts to identity- 1) be 2) do and 3) have. These are analogous to 3 concentric circles with the inner one being your thoughts, the middle one being the things you do and the outer one being the things you have. This order also represents the most common syntax of how you change your identity. First, you change your thoughts, this leads to a change in your behavior followed by a change in what you have.
Burning Paper
The amazing thing is that just by massively concentrating your focus for even a small amount of time on given item you can make MAJOR progress on it-for example, a magnifying glass to burn a newspaper. Further, the process can easily be self sustaining- just like when the paper starts to burn.
Short Walk
If you are going to be effective i.e., you need to make sure that it is as much as possible a “short”, logically speaking, from what you are doing right now to the achievement of your outcome. Not only do you need to know your outcome but you need to be able to quickly and logically connect what you are doing at any given moment into it. It should be a ““short” logically from what you are doing to your outcome. Be very wary if the ““walk” involves many steps, assumptions, vague ideas or wishful thinking - these almost always mean that you are wasting your time, at least wit respect to achieving this outcome.
Trouble w/ planning
The very fact that you are having trouble planning indicates how important it is that you plan. It is the very person who has the most trouble planning that most needs to plan.
Studying History
You must study history, expose yourself to new ideas, because in order to get ALL the ideas that you need to life a high quality life you need to get far more ideas than you can figure out on your own or that will be obvious to you or your contemporaries by simply examining the present or recent past.
In order to grow you must constantly think new better thoughts. Think of it like material in a factory. To have future production you need new materials all the time. You must continually plant thoughts so you can harvest them later. The level of thinking that has gotten to where you are now won't get you to the next level.
Your goal is NOT to memorize great ideas, it is to think them for yourself.
Those who massively succeed aren't "disciplined" it is that they so love it that they are NATURALLY disciplined to do the work. Don't lead yourself to water- make yourself thirsty.

Welcome to my blog!!
Hello, my name is Roger and this is my blog.
For many years I have been writing down my ideas on anything I could find- journals, various pieces of software (Outlook, Ecco), pieces of paper, my hand, hand held computers (Sharp Wizard) but I have never created a blog.
I have done so much writing that I have over 55 journals full of my ideas plus another 500 pages or so that were printed out from an old piece of software (Ecco) that I used to capture my ideas in.
In spite of this enormous output, I have never really shared my ideas with a wider audience.
Until now.
Why am I doing it now?
I really don't know. It just seems the time for me to do so. I need to stop hiding my light under a bushel. I need to freely express who I am.
I hope you find something of value.
Thank you.
